This caterpilar, green with a thin purple line behing its head as shown, was identified with the help of the volunteer experts at BugGuide. We have not yet photographed the adult moth, which come in various shades of green and black, triangular marks on their forewings. They are nocturnal and fly from May to September.

 

The abundance of theis moth species is yet unknown. Its caterpillars feed on goldenrod and asters.

 

Caterpillars feed on a wide variety of plants including Evening Primrose and the leaves of apple trees. Larvae burrow into soil to pupate.
