GROUND BEETLES (Carabidae)

A black deeply grooved beetle up to about 1 inch long. The elytra are irregular. It is wingless and can’t fly. It ranges up to 1 inch long. This one is a female. This beetle was identified by experts at Bugguide.net.

 

This is a widely distributed woodland beetle. Its occurrence is not known at Fontenelle Forest. This one was photographed at Camp Brewster.

 

This beetle belongs to the subfamily Licinini or notch mouthed ground beetles.
