GYPONANA LEAFHOPPER

GYPONANA LEAFHOPPER

Gyponana sp.
LEAFHOPPER FAMILY (Cicadellidae)

Little information is available for this leafhopper genus which is comprised of 50 species. Like the other leafhoppers, they suck the juices from plants and lay their eggs in slits cut into twigs. Due to their green color they are often hard to spot. They move slowly to avoid being noticed by their predators, but they can jump mightily when threatened.

We have no information on their abundance at our two nature centers, but assume they are present during the summer in both.
