The Hollow-spotted Angle has a wingspan of approximately 1 inch. The wings are brown and powdery with irregular, squiggly black lines which can be very inconspicuous to bold. The reniform spot on the forewing is a hollow, vertical elipse. This moth was identified by James Durbin from the Insects of Iowa website.
The frequency of occurrence is not known. It has been photographed once at Fontenelle Forest in early September. Adults fly from April through September
The larval foodplants are larch and willows.
