The Hop Vine Moth has a wingspan of 1 to 1.25 inches. The forewing is mottled brown with a dark streak that runs from the apex to the reniform spot. The subterminal line is made up of several dark dots. The PM line is a large sharp tooth near the costa and smaller teeth toward the inner margin. The hindwing is pale brownish-yellow. The labial palps are long. The larva is pale green with thin white subdorsal and spiracular stripes. The head is shiny green unmarked or with tiny black spots. The caterpillar grows to about 1.25 inches.

The frequency of occurrence is not known. It was photographed coming to artificial lights in late August 2013 at Fontenelle Forest. Adults are usually not attracted to lights so they are not often seen. Adults fly from April to October.

The larval host plants are Common Hops, Stinging Nettle and Woodnettle.
