This bee is approximately 3/8” in length. The face and thorax are black and glossy looking. The abdomen is black with wide yellow bands and short, light-colored hairs. The legs are yellow and brown and are covered with thick, yellow hair. This sweat bee was identified by volunteer experts at the BugGuide website.

This species is probably common from spring to fall.

This is the species that most often lands on your arm. There are about 280 species in the Sweat Bee family in North America. The behavior of species in this family range from solitary to semi-social. Nests are burrows in the soil or sometimes in rotting wood.
