MAY BEETLE

MAY BEETLE

Phyllophaga crenulata
SCARAB BEETLES (Scarabaeidae)

This beetle is orange brown to dark brown and hairy. It is almost one inch long (20mm). It was identified with the help of experts at Bugguide. net.

It is found from May-August throughout the eastern U.S. Its occurrence at Fontenelle Forest is not known but we would expect it to be common. This one was photographed in the front of the Nature Center.

This beetle feeds on a variety of hardwoods especially hickory, basswood, willow and buckeye. The beetle feeds on the foliage of the plants.
