This diminutive moth has a wingspan of .75 to 1.25 inches. The forewing is dark brown at both ends and tan in the middle. The brown and tan sections are separated by wavy white lines that continue onto the hindwing. The hindwing is tan with brown markings. Adults typically rest with the tip of the abdomen curved up at right-angles to the body. The caterpillar is cream-colored and hairless with a brown head. They grow to approximately .75 inch when mature.
This is a common moth in this area. The adults fly from May to August outdoors and may be found anytime of year indoors. The individual shown here was photographed in late June at Neale Woods.
The larvae are serious pests on stored grain and grain products.
