This planthopper has relatively large, transparent wings with prominent black veins and black spots. Sexually dimorphic, females have many black spots in the wings like our specimen. The wings of males are without the numerous black spots. Like other planthoppers, they feed on the juices of a variety of plants.
This planthopper is not seen often but is probably common at our two nature centers. It ranges throughout southeastern U.S. Nebraska is the northwestern limit of its range.
This treehopper lives on juices sucked from plants. It prefers oaks and hickories for its food source. There are 46 species in the genus Molinoliarus.
