This planthopper has no accepted common name. It has a pointed head, pinkish eyes, and long rounded green wings. Like other planthoppers, it usually moves slowly so as not to attract attention from predators, and it has the color, shape and posture of a leaf. It was identified with the help of volunteer experts at BugGuide.
This planthopper occurs in the southeastern U.S., west to Texas and south into the West Indies, Mexico, Central America and parts of South America. Nebraska is the northwestern limit of its distribution.
This planthopper is the only species in the genus Nersia in North America.
