This small moth has a wingspan of 5/8 to 3/4 inch. This moth is readily identified by its small size and bright orange hindwing. The forewing is a rich brown color with darker brown bands and a black subterminal spot. The female is paler than the male with the hindwing being more yellow than orange.

The Orange Wing is very common in summer and is active both day and night. During the day it can be seen in low vegetation along the trails in Fontenelle Forest and Neale Woods. The individual shown in photo A was attracted to a mercury vapor moth light at Neale Woods in June 2017.

The larval food plants are locust trees.
