This planthopper is about 1/2 inch long and very similar to Scolops sulcipes, which has a distinctive venation pattern on its wings. Both were identified by volunteer experts at BugGuide. S. pungens also has dark spots along the edges of its wings, which separates it from yet another very similar species. Image “E” shows a mating pair. Image “F” shows a nymph of this species.

The abundance of this species is yet unknown.
