Description
Some cockroaches are difficult to identify to species. This male was identified to species with the help of experts at BugGuide. It was about 1 1/2 inches long – the females are much smaller, have wings, but can’t fly.

Occurrence
This species lives in the woods, usually found beneath loose bark. They are probably abundant in our two nature centers, but they not that often seen. Cockroaches have been around a very long time – about 300 million years. There are about 55 species found in the United States.
