This slender Ichneumon wasp is approximately 1/2 inch long. The head, eyes and antennae are black. The thorax is dark red. The abdomen is mostly red with the last 3 segments being black with white rings. The female has a long black ovipositer. The wings are clear. The forewings have a black stigma in mid-wing on the outer edges. This wasp was identified by volunteer experts at the BugGuide website.

The frequency of occurrence is not known. One individual was photographed in Fontenelle Forest in late June 2013.

This Ichneumon wasp belongs to the small Delomeristini Tribe in the Pimplinae subfamily. The tribe has 2 genera, only one of which occurs in North America. These wasps are usually slender, orange and black and have thick tibial spurs. This wasp occurs worldwide.
