The Prairie Bird-dropping Moth has a wingspan of approximately 3/4 inch (2 cm). The forewing is bright white with the outer half being crossed by a wide, dark brown and gray band. The costa is white for the basal 2/3 which is then divided by an orange patch. A dark, round spot ringed with paler scales is at the end of the disc. The hindwing is white and shaded with gray-brown along the outer margin.

 

This moth is uncommon in this area. It was photographed in Fontenelle Forest in 16 June 2016 and 19 Aug 2017 coming to moth lights. It ranges in the mid-section of the U.S. from Iowa on the east to Utah in the west south to Texas. It’s preferred habitat is prairie.

 

There is very little known about this moth. The host plant is unknown.
