Pyrausta Generosa has a wingspan of .75 inch. The forewing is blackish shaded with brown in the middle. There is a square yellow discal spot. At the costa the subterminal line is broadly bordered by a yellow band which narrows mid-way to a thin jagged line that continues across the wing. The hindwing is dark brown with a broad yellow median band. The abdomen is black with the segments narrowly edged with yellow. The legs and palpi are white.
Pyraust generosa seems to be common in June. It was photographed at Acorn Acres, Fontenelle Forest coming to lights in mid-June 2016 and again in mid-June 2017 and 2018. It occurs from Manitoba and Minnesota in the north to Florida in the south and west to Oklahoma. Adults fly late May to late July.
The larval food is unknown, but may possibly be plants of the mint family.
