This is a reddish brown beetle about 2/3 of an inch long with striations on the elytra. It was identified to genus by experts at Bugguide.net
This beetle is found under bark. We don’t know for sure but expect this bark beetle to be fairly common at Fontenelle Forest. This one was photographed on Missouri River Trail.
This is one of several bark beetles introduced from Europe that has thrived in the U.S.
