The AM line is a dark brown diagonal line that usually terminates in a triangular blotch at the inner margin. The PM line usually begins with a blotch at the costa and divides to form a “Y” shape. The hindwing is white with variable yellow shading along the outer margin. This moth was identified by volunteer experts at the BugGuide website.

The frequency of occurrence is not known. It has been photographed once at Fontenelle Forest Nature Center in mid-July. The adults are attracted to artificial lights.

The larvae feed on the leaves of a variety of trees including alder, apple, aster, cherry, maple, oak and pear. The scientific name was formerly Spargnothis reticulatana.
