RUFOUS-BANDED CRAMBID

The Rufous-banded Crambid has a wingspan of about 7/8 inch. It is tan to yellow with broad cinnamon AM and PM bands. Reddish-brown spots mark the midpoint of the costa and apex.

 

The frequency of occurrence of the Rufous-banded Crambid is not known. It has been photographed once at Neale Woods in early September 2012. Adults come to artificial lights.

 

The larva is a seed-feeder of various Mallow family (Malvaceae) plants, including various mallows and hollyhocks.
