The Rustic Quaker has a wingspan of 1.25 inches. The forewing is plain brown with lighter lines and circles. The orbicular and reniform spots are large and sometimes touch. The hindwing is gray brown. The larva is called Rustic Groundcat and is light brown with indistinct markings. There is a black mid dorsal spot on abdominal segments 1 and 2. The mature caterpillar grows to about 1.50 inches long.

 

The frequency of occurrence at Fontenelle Forest and Neale Woods is not known. The individual shown here was photographed coming to lights at Camp Brewster, Fontenelle Forest in late September.

 

The larvae feed on a wide variety of plants including dandelion, grasses, plantain and willow. Adults fly from May to October.
