This moth has a total length of .50 inch and about 1 inch wing span. The forewing is whitish with gray markings. There is a large gray patch near the inner margin, a gray subterminal patch and 3 gray terminal lines with the middle one dotted. The thorax has an erect tuft of blue-black scales. The hindwings are whitish with brown shading and a whitish fringe. The caterpillar is slender, greenish with pale crossbands at the segments. It has sparse light-colored hairs. The face is pinkish with black markings. The very similar Pale Gray Bird- Dropping moth is smaller, 3/8 inch, and the thoracic tuft is not as dark.

The frequency of occurrence at Fontenelle Forest and Neale Woods is not known. The moth was photographed at the 2013 Biloblitz at Fontenelle Forest Nature Center in early June.

The larvae eat the leaves of oak trees, primarily white oak.
