This Sedge Moth has a wingspan of about 1/2 inch and is about 1/4 inch (4m – 6m) long. The forewing is orange with small black checkerboard markings in the median area and silver steaks along the costa. The hindwing is plain brown with a long, tan fringe. The legs are tan with brown banding.

The frequency of occurrence in this area is not known. It was photographed on June 7, 2016 in Fontenelle Forest. Its habitat is low, shaded deciduous forest. The range is Pennsylvania west to Nebraska and Iowa and south to North Carolina.

It is believed that Stinging Nettle (Urtica dioica) is the host plant as it is often found in nettle patches.
