This is a male, about 3/4 inch long. It is mostly yellow with black bands on the abdomen, yellow and orange legs, slightly smoky transparent wings, black thorax with two yellow stripes and a long many segmented antennae, typical of ichneumon wasps. The female differs from the male in that she has an all black thorax, white bands on the antennae and reddish legs. This wasp was identified by Dr. Bob Carlson on Bug Guide.
This wasp is mostly eastern in distribution, Nebraska being the farthest west it has been recorded on Bug Guide. The frequency of occurrence in Fontenelle Forest and Neale Woods is unknown but it is expected to be uncommon. It was photographed at Fontenelle Forest Nature Center on May 23, 2012.
Virtually nothing is known about this species in regard to its nesting habits and its prey.
