SHORT-WINGED GREEN GRASSHOPPER

Dichromorpha viridis
SHORT-HORNED GRASSHOPPERS (Acrididae)

The male of this species, shown in (A) is less than one inch long. It comes in two color forms, green above with brown sides as shown (A), or light brown above with dark brown sides. The females are much larger – over an inch long. They also come in two color forms, either all green or all brown.

 

The abundance of this species in our two nature centers is not yet known. They prefer grassy areas. They may be seen in our area from June through September.
