This katydid is named for its appearance, long and slender. It is about an inch (25 mm) long with green abdomen, thorax, head and face. It has a central brown stripe running from the head and over the thorax. The green and tan wings extend well beyond the end of the abdomen and the hind wings extend 2 to 3 mm beyond the forewings. The female, shown in photos 1, 2, and 3, has a long, almost straight ovipositor.

The Slender Meadow Katydid is distributed broadly throughout North America. It is found in grassy areas in fields, meadows and open woodlands from mid-summer to October. It is probably common in this area although it may be rarely encountered.

This katydid is attracted to lights. Photos shown here were taken when it was attracted to lights set up in Fontenelle Forest to attract moths.
