This Small Carpenter Bee is about 8 mm long. It is a dull greenish-black metallic color. The legs and antennae are brown. The wings are smoky brown. Members of this genus have club-shaped abdomens. This bee was identified by Dr. John Ascher from the Bug-Guide Website.

The frequency of occurrence is not known. The individual shown here was photographed at Camp Brewster, Fontenelle Forest in early June 2013. It was nectaring on Golden Alexander flowers. In addition they also visit raspberry and goldenrod flowers as well as others.

Females overwinter in partially excavated elder or sumac plant stems and twigs. In spring the female enlarges the resting place with her mandibles into a brood nest.
