This beetle is about 6 mm (1/4th inch) long. It has black elytra and a reddish thorax. The hind femora are moderately to greatly enlarged. It was identified with the help of experts at Bugguide.net

 

This beetle was found in the pollinator garden. Its overall occurrence in Fontenelle Forest is not known. Flea beetles are common pests on many vegetable crops. You can also find them on flowers, and occasionally on ornamental shrubs and trees.

 

This beetle is in the subfamily flea beetles or Alticinae. It is named for their jumping ability. The spinach flea beetle is larger than other beetles in this subfamily.
