SPLENDID PALPITA

Palpita magniferalis
CRAMBID SNOUT MOTH FAMILY (Crambidae)

The Splendid Palpita has a wingspan of approximately 1 inch. The forewing is a transucent gray with dark spots and a black median band. The hindwing is a dark tan with some diffuse brown spots. The legs are striped brown and tan. The abdomen is brown with some black bands. The caterpillar is light to dark green with an ivory colored head.

 

The frequency of occurrence is not known. The individuals shown here were photographed at Fontenelle Forest in late April and in late July. Adults fly from April to October.

 

The larval food plant is Ash trees. Another name for this moth is the Ash Leafroller.
