STIRELLUS LEAFHOPPER

Stirellus bicolor
LEAFHOPPER FAMILY (Cicadellidae)

This interesting leafhopper comes in two color forms: a pale one occurring in the colder climates; and a strikingly yellow and black form in the warmer climates. This particular individual was identified with the help of the volunteer experts at BugGuide. It feeds on grass.

 

This specimen was photographed at Neale Woods in early July 2013. Its abundance is not yet known.
