Tachinid Flies vary greatly in appearance, as can be seen from the photos. Most are a half inch (13 mm) long or less. Most have black bristles on the abdomen. Many look similar to house flies. Most have clear wings but some are pigmented.
Tachinid flies are common throughout North America and can be found almost anywhere.
In North America there are more than 1350 species of tachinid flies in more than 300 genera.
