This small skipper has a wingspan of 3/4 to 1 inch. It has short triangular wings. The forewing is olive-brown dorsally with a tawny-orange patch along the costal margin. There is a row of yellow squarish spots above a wide black sub-margin. The male stigma is black and doubly curved. The hindwings are a plain gold-brown color sometimes with a row of light spots in a crescent. The caterpillar is tan or maroon with a black head.

This is a common skipper that can be seen almost anywhere in Fontenelle Forest and Neale Woods in the summer.

The larval food plants are various grasses including panic grass.
