A small black and yellow sawfly, about 1/2 inch (12 mm) long. It has four wings, all clear with a black stigma on the costa of the forewing. Face is yellow, eyes are black with a yellow outline stripe around the top. Antennae are black. thorax is black with yellow markings. abdomen, though not visible in the photos, is yellow and black in the female and mostly yellow in the male. Legs are yellow except for black rear femurs.

This sawfly is known to occur throughout eastern North America. The individual shown here was attracted to lights set up to attract moths at Fontenelle Forest.

Little is known about the larva or its food source.
