This beetle is brown and covered with scales. Its dorsal surface has numerous stiff erect hairs. It is about 1/4th of an inch long. It was identified with the aid of experts at bugguide. Net.

 

This beetle feeds on the rosettes of thistles (Carduus and cirsium). It was found on South stream trail.

 

Also known as the musk thistle weevil and rosette weevil
