TOOTH NOSED SNOUT WEEVIL

This beetle was identified with the help of experts at Bug Guide. It could only be identified to subfamily. Traits of the subfamily Attalabinae include bristly hairs, and a rostrum (snout) that is longer than the head. It is black in color and about ¼ inch long.

 

Most members of this subfamily are pest of fruits and flower buds. Plants attacked by members of this subfamily include composites, roses, various fruit trees, and oaks.

 

Members of this subfamily are commonly known as “tooth-nosed snout weevils.” The largest genus in this subfamily is Rhynchites
