The Triangle-backed Pelochrista has a wingspan of .50 to .75 inch. The forewing is pale grayish-tan with two separate dark brown patches that extend through the median area. The patches are surrounded by white edging. The markings are reduced or absent in some individuals. The hindwing is pale tan with brown shading at the apex and outer margin.

The frequency of occurrence of this moth is unknown. One individual was photographed at Fontenelle Forest Nature Center in late September 2014. The adults are attracted to lights.

The larvae eat the roots of goldenrod plants. The name was recently changed from Triangle-backed Eucosma (Eucosma dorsignata).
