6.25 inches long. The Tufted Titmouse is a small bird with a small bill. It has a gray crest and gray back with whitish underparts. The forehead is dark. The flanks are rusty.

The Tufted Titmouse is a common year round breeding resident of the Forest.

The range of the Tufted Titmouse has expanded northward over the recent years. It often will nest in artificial nestboxes. Some birds will save large amounts of food throughout their territories. Young of the year will often remain with their parents during the winter and then disperse later in their second year. The call of the titmouse is a loud whistled “peter, peter, peter”.
