TWICE-STABBED STINK BUG

This bug has a black body with a red to yellow band across the pronotum and a short red stripe along the midline. The scutellum has 2 red marginal spots near the apex. It is about 1/4 inch ( 6 mm) long. It was identified with the help of experts at Bugguide.net.

 

It is widely distributed throughout N. America and is common in this area.

 

It is also known as the wee Harlequin bug and two spotted stink bug. A variety of plants host this bug including Echinacea, mint and goldenrod.
