This colorful bug is about 3/8th of an inch long. It is black, with two red or orange stripes across its back (A,B). The eyes are dark red. It’s nymph (not yet shown) is similar in appearance, but without wings. As the name implies, it forms a mass of foam (spittle) around itself to protect it from predators while feeding on plants, which include Bermuda Grass (Cynodon dactylon).

The abundance of this bug in our two nature centers is still unknown. In any case, it will not be seen that often because of its small size.
