This is one of the largest grasshoppers found in our area. The adult reaches up to 2 inches in length. It may be identified by its two bright yellow or tan stripes running from its head, over the pronotum and to its abdomen.

This species is common at Neale Woods and they are probably at least uncommon in the floodplain prairie of Fontenelle Forest as well. It is often found not only in prairies, but is also considered a pest when they invade corn fields and meadows. These grasshoppers may be seen from June through October.
