This mosiac darner is approximately 3 inches or 75 mm in length. The face is cream-colored with a black cross-line. The male’s eyes are bright blue. The thorax is brown with thin, very pale short stripes. Thoraic stripes can even be absent. The abdomen on the male is black with pairs of bright blue cross stripes. The female’s abdomen is brown and may have blue, green or yellow spots.

The only photographs of this species were taken in the evening in Fontenelle Forest in late September. No other dates are known for this uncommon species.

It is distinguished from other “blue” darners by lack of bold thoracic stripes. Both sexes fly in the evening until long after dark. The female braces against twigs or stems to oviposit below the water surface.
