Description
The Verbena Bud Moth is approximately 5/16 inch (8 mm) long. The forewing is marbled with warm brown, tan and black. It has a two-pronged blackish median band. The caterpillars are plain green with a red head and black collar. They grow to about 1/2 inch.

The frequency of occurrence in this area is not known. It was photographed on 9/7/2013 at Neale Woods coming to moth lights. It ranges from southeastern Canada to the eastern U.S. Adults fly from May through September.

 

Another common name for this moth is Dull-barred Endothenia. The larvae feed on the developing seeds of the host plants which include iris, speedwell, vervain and many other low-growing plants.
