A small wasp, about 10 mm (3/8”) long without the very long ovipositor which adds another 20 mm. The wasp is reddish brown with smoky brown wings, long black antennae. Eyes are black. Legs are reddish brown with black tarsi.

Little is known about the distribution of this small wasp in this area. It is widely distributed throughout the US but is not seen often. It is probably uncommon although because of its small size it is easily overlooked.

Photos A, B & C were taken at the Camp Brewster prairie on 4 July 2014. The wasp was first discovered as it dangled in a small spider web. It managed to escape and as it rested from the ordeal it made a good subject for a photograph.
