This is a black beetle that resembles caterpillar droppings. It has warty protuberances all over its body. It is 1/10th of an inch long. This beetle was identified by Tony Palmer an entomologist at the Henry Doorly Zoo.
This beetle is found on many plant species. This one was photographed on goldenrod. We expect it to be common at Fontenelle Forest.
This beetle is in the subfamily Cryptocephalinae.
