This native plant has small flowers with three white petals (A). The diffuse flower stems (B) can be up to 3 feet tall in good habitat. The thick leaf blades (C) are elliptic or ovate, are on sturdy stalks, and may reach a foot in length and 6 inches wide in water. Plants on shore (C) are much smaller. The fruiting head (D) is about 6.5 mm across.

Only a few plants have been found in the stream and on the shore of the Pond on the floodplain of Fontenelle Forest.  Flowering occurs from June to August.
