WILLOW WEEVIL

WILLOW WEEVIL

Dorytomus mucidus
WEEVIL FAMILY (Curculionidae)

This is a blackish weevil about ½ inch long with striations on the elytra. It has the long bill characteristic of weevils. It was identified to genus by experts at Bugguide.net. Range maps indicate it is most likely D. mucidus.

Associated with willows and cottonwoods. We expect it to be fairly common at Fontenelle Forest and Neale Woods.

The larvae feed on catkins of willows and cottonwoods.
