5.5 inches long. The Yellow-throated Vireo is a medium-sized vireo with a dark eye and a thick hooked bill and two bold white wing bars. The upperparts are olive with a gray rump. There are bold yellow spectacles on the face. The throat and upper breast are bright yellow. The belly and undertail coverts are white. The legs are blue-gray.

 

The Yellow-throated Vireo is an uncommon breeding bird in the Forest that arrives by mid April and stays until mid October.

 

The Yellow-throated Vireo breeds in deciduous forests.It is found in edge habitats including streams and forest edges. It prefers to forage for insects high in the canopy. In courtship the male builds several nests and performs a nest building display crouching and singing before the female. The song is a series of two or three note burry phrases with long pauses between “three-eight, three-eight, three-eight……three eight”.
