This green assassin bug is about a half inch (13 mm) long.  They can often be found on foliage. They kill their prey with a stabbing proboscis which is folded under their thorax. Often their prey is larger than themselves. This individual in image 1, a male, was identified with the help of volunteer experts at BugGuide. Males usually have darker wings than females.

This species of assassin bug is common in this area.

The defensive bites of these assassin bugs is said to be quite painful, so it would be unwise to handle them when encountered.
