The female is about a half inch (13 mm) long with a gray abdomen marked with a reddish “V” mark.  The male of this species comes in several different forms.  The male shown here is black with white legs.  Click here to see one of the other forms.

 

The Dimorphic Jumper is found throughout eastern North America.  It is probably common in this area although seldom seen.

 

The name dimorphic is well applied to this species since the male looks quite different than the female.
