Description
This spider family has over 2000 species, many of which are difficult to identify. They hunt their prey on the ground at night and spend their days hidden sheltered in a cocoon. Experts at BugGuide could not positively identify this particular specimen to species from these two images alone.
Occurrence
This spider was the first one recently seen by one of our NatureSearch team members, but these spiders are rarely seen during the day. So abundance will be very difficult to estimate. It was photographed on the lowest loop of the Fontenelle Forest boardwalk.
