This small spider – less than 1/2 inch in body-length – spins a hammock under which it waits for prey and also seeks protection. This species is difficult to identify from similar spiders of the same genus. The volunteer experts at BugGuide helped with its identification.

This was the first of its kind photographed recently in our two nature centers. It was found in Mormon Hollow of Fontenelle Forest in late September 2012. Its abundance is yet unknown.
